Power - House
Clock & ChimesTower

A Virtual Tour

The Power House, Clock & Chimes Towers, located on the eastern end of the island, was built in 1900 and cost an estimated $40,000 to construct.

George Boldt intended to electrify his island soon after he acquired it in 1895, so he had his favorite architectural firm of Hewitt, Stevens & Paist of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, design this facility.
Coal, brought by barge, would fire steam generators within the basement of this midevil-styled, multi-towered chateau. An arched stone bridge originally connected the power house to the island.

The building measures 50 feet wide and 54 feet long, and has four turrets - the tallest rising 90 feet above the crystal waters of the St. Lawrence River.
The building originally housed 15 chimes, forming a miniature representation of the famous Westminster Chimes. They ranged in size from 12 to 14 feet and could be heard up to four miles away.
